Is it wet here, or is it just my feet?
Erm,okay, failed attempt at afternoon humor. Yes, I have another guest post today, at the Saturated Page. You can see it here:
I hope you enjoy it.

While I’m in here this morning, yes, I have–count ‘em–not one, but two guest posts today.
Thanks to my friend Casey. I’m over at her blog, with some kitty facts, and fact debunking.
You can see that here.
and also over at Writing Secrets of 7 Scribes with a little bit of personal facts, if you’re curious about the gal behind the pen. ![]()

…otherwise known as The End… in the so-called Not-Nanoproject.
I’m almost finished with the first draft of the Thing that’s Been Floundering For A Year. It’s jumped from 7k to 26,683 words. *squee* I’m one happy girl.
This past week was a slow one, and I blame the holiday and edit-November, but I managed to go back and tweaked a few things in the beginning of the TTBFFAY to jive with a surprise that showed up in the almost-end. Now I just have to, you know, write the final scenes–and that’s where I’m stumped. Somehow the ending of this particular story, in whatever form, has been a PITA. I hope I can figure it out in the next week or two. Or soonish, anyway. I’m now shooting for having a first polish on it by early January.
Total that I did last week: a measly 7100 words. I blame the fact that I was working on two other non-related stories (longtimers, you know the two I mean), and the Thanksgiving holiday knocking two days out of my work schedule. But I’m pleased with my total, if I know some of that wordcount will be whacked out. Now if I could just figure out what happens to wrap it all up. *sigh* So, Suz, do I get a cupcake now?
Because I tend to think of what I do as writing romantic cozy mystery and I’m reading so many of them these days to be honest, I found the following articles/interviews very interesting.
I hope that, in sharing it, it helps some other budding writer out. Enjoy!

Oh, and in the same vein, there’s an interesting podcast, here, featuring Juliet Blackwell, about her “Witchcraft Mysteries” series that I’m enjoying. And here she is at Murder She Writes talking about her work, and an interview with her last year at Literary Escapism. Here, last August, is a short story Ms. Blackwell allowed Tynga to post on her blog, Tynga’s Reviews. This features the adorable Oscar, Lily Ivory’s gargoyle/potbellied pig familiar. *g* (Can you tell I’m pretty much enamored of this series?) Anyway, I’m sharing in hopes y’all find them enjoyable.
Anyone doing Nanowrimo? I generally don’t officially participate, I’ve got my own schedule to keep, after all. However, I do have something in a first draft mode that I’m hoping to get finished by Christmas. (On top of all the others I have to get finished in the next few months, eh? Nothing like being a glutton for punishment). Still, it is the topic in most of the writing groups so I thought I’d ask. Maybe it’s the being sick thing *gag* putting me out of my mind at the moment.
What’re your plans for the Nanowrimo thing this year? If you’re attempting it, I wish you all the best.
Updated to add: On the other hand. My friend Suzanne has a challenge to non-nano-ers (for lack of a better word) and I don’t mind checking in with her. http://t.co/HbOjdrXa
The trouble is, sometimes, checking in with anyone kills my first drafts, but this silly thing’s been like pulling teeth, so I’m hoping to make some progress to that all-important finish line before the first. We’ll see.
This gave me a smile, this morning. Thought the cat lovers around here might enjoy it too!

If you’ve been following the stories of the success of people like Amanda Hocking and JA Konrath (and let’s face it, in the writing communities who hasn’t been paying attention to them?) it seems like self-publishing is the new big thing. I myself know several writers who have done it–some for quite a long time, even before it was “cool”, and this weekend, I attended a workshop with none other than Best Selling romance author Maggie Shayne, who was herself all gung-ho on the subject. Certainly people are sitting up and taking notice. The numbers of people rushing on to the bandwagon are staggering to tell by the almost constant emails I get from writer-friends about this subject. For me, I still haven’t taken the plunge (due to several factors I’m not sure of yet), but never say never. My friend Rosalie has and if you’re curious, she’s put up a post on her blog concerning her observations. It, the link she links to, and the comments are all quite interesting. If you’re curious about this subject at all, do go pop by her blog here.
